We are an organization dedicated to raising much needed funds for charities that need our help. In our inaugural year, we are dedicated to helping Mark Scrivner reach his goal of raising $50,000 for cancer research after losing his father to lung cancer.

Mark’s Letter

Dear Supporters—

With your generous donation and the unwavering support of Camels with a Cause, we were able to lend a helping hand to many people who have been affected by cancer.

After six months of training, covering 471 miles (not including the 26.2 for the marathon), the Country Music Marathon has come and gone with many high points.  With your help, our team raised well over $23,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which was the largest single donation made to the Society this year.  Simply stated, this would not have been possible without wonderful people like you.  Thank you for your trust in us.

The CWAC Web site also enabled us to honor 169 people who were personally touched by cancer.  Surprisingly, when we started this list, it was only at 20.  With your continued support, we will undoubtedly make the list of survivors much longer, and one day we may actually be able to rid cancer from this Earth.

On a personal note, I was able to carry the medal I gave my dad during his fight against cancer across the finish line with my hands held high to let cancer know it had messed with the wrong person.  There is no question that the marathon tested me — not only physically, but mentally as well.  However, the physical and mental strain I have endured during the last six months seem trivial when compared to the constant physical and mental strain that people suffering from cancer (and their families) must endure.  Trust me, I would run another 10,000 miles if it would bring my father back.

Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do to bring my father back.  The marathon may be over, but my war against cancer wages on.  I pledge to do whatever I can to ease the grip that cancer has on our society.  If I can help one person avoid the crushing pain I felt when I lost my father, it will all be worth it.  Thank you so much for being a trusted ally in the war against cancer.

With Hope—
